I started therapy again this past month and it’s been an eye opener. First and foremost, I do understand that not everything works with everyone. I’m not a professional ; this is just my own experience. With that said, I think most folks should try therapy. I think is beyond helpful for our world.
I’ve been in therapy , on and off, since I was 11. It’s definitly been important part of my life. I would argue that it’s safe my life more then once.
So, you’re wondering with all these years of therapy, why is now so different?
For one, I’m alot older … obviously.
Second, The pademic really did a number on not just me but the world in general.
Yes, you get it.
My recent sessions has opened my eyes to my biggest vice: Negative self talk.
Come on, we all do it.
It’s that little voice that tells us that we’re horrible or useless. It just the worst thing ever.
What I have come acrossed is the strenght of the this “Little Voice”.
It can be crippling and bring on so much aniexty. However, Think of your best friend or Spouse or your pet or your child. Would you ever talk to them the way your nasty little voice does? Would you say the disgusting things to it day after day?
No?
Then why are you doing it to yourself?
Are you not your own best friend? Why treat yourself so badly?
This was such an AHA moment for me recently. I never thought of that. Why did it take me this long to see this?
If you’re reading this and find your “Little Voice” causing havac in your life, here’s a few things I’ve tried:
- Take a deeep breath! Sometimes you just need to stop and pause. The negative selftalk can be a little evil thing and you need to stop sometimes. This is probably the easiest thing to do.
- Journal it out. I do this every day and it’s been life changing. Getting my thoughts on paper and seeing it is so healing. Sometimes you really don’t know what is bothering you and figure it out can be one of the first steps.
- Write yourself a little love note Because why not. It’s good to love yourself.
Like I said previously, I’m not a professional. If you have overwhelming thoughts, I highly suggest get help thru Therapy or other means.
I hope this was helpful.
